Beauty pageants whether on the local or global stage, are lively sites for the production and contestation and competitive nature
Miss Township South Africa Teen semi-finalists event was hosted at Manhattan Hotel in Pretoria recently. The grand final event will be hosted on the 17th of July. The venue will still be confirmed.
Amongst the finalist was Lungile Mahlangu a young woman who hails from a township named Tsebe in Mabopane. She started her schooling at Radineo Primary School and is now a grade 9 learner at Acudeo College Thornview Secondary School in Soshanguve.
The 14-year old said she developed interest in 2019 when former Miss Universe and Miss South Africa Zozibini Tunzi was crowned. She then watched beauty pageant videos on social media platforms to master her craft.
Represented by her mother Nkele Mahlangu who is also her manager she said “it is her first time entering a beauty pageant, she is also a high performer academically. She wants to study medicine. Currently she is furthering her studies through a scholarship”
“The importance of this beauty pageant is to redefine beauty and empower young women in townships around South Africa,” said Mahlangu.
The winners will walk away with make-up kits, sanitary pads, modeling classes and hair care products,just to name a few. People can buy her votes through the Capitec account and ensure that they write her reference number MTT05 on the card.
