The city of Tshwane and stakeholders hosted the #Ichoose2BActive Recreational day at Hammanskraal Sports Complex in Mandela village.
The event is hosted annually to raise positive and healthy lifestyles to reduce mortality rates curbing the scourge of non-communicable diseases. Recreation and sport play a pivotal role in improving the health and well-being of an individual.
Amongst the guests was the Member of the Mayoral Committee, Cllr Peggy De Bruin for Social Development and Community Services in Tshwane.
The MMC has articulated her excitement to see how the community came in numbers to support the event.
“The aim of the event today is to encourage our communities to participate in the different activities happening today”, she explained.
MMC further explains that sport is very important in keeping our youth busy and out of trouble. “Not everyone is academically gifted, this way they all get to showcase and hone their talents”, explained DE Bruin.
The turnout was better than she had hoped “I am happy to see people of all ages here today” she explained.
According to De Bruin the department of sports continuously supports different sporting codes throughout the year with different programs
“We have a role to play as the department as we know there are many social ills that the youth is very vulnerable to”, She said.
Buses were arranged to transport community members from Majaneng to Hammanskraal Sports Complex in Mandela Village.
