In an exclusive interview with Tshwane Bulletin, the 31-year-old Mogano reminisced about his culinary roots, which trace back to his upbringing surrounded by a tapestry of flavour and cultural influences. It was the bustling markets and the tantalizing smells of home-cooked meals that ignited his passion for food at a tender age.
For Mogano, cooking isn’t just a skill it’s part of who he is. “Whether I’m experimenting with new ingredients, perfecting traditional recipes, or pushing culinary boundaries, I approach each dish with dedication and enthusiasm,” he shared.
After matriculating at Wallmansthal High School, Mogano embarked on his culinary journey, driven by an unyielding determination to pursue his dreams.
His venture into the culinary world wasn’t merely about building a career; it was a deep-rooted love for food and the craft of cooking.
Graduating from Ga-Rankuwa Hotel School, Mogano honed his skills under the tutelage of seasoned chefs, mastering the delicate art of flavour pairing and culinary craftsmanship. By 2013, he had taken his first steps into the professional arena as a chef.
“As an aspiring chef, I possess a formidable array of culinary skills that set me apart in the competitive world of gastronomy, from knife techniques to flavour pairing,” added Mogano.
“From the aroma of freshly prepared dishes to the comforting embrace of my mother’s kitchen, I have found solace and inspiration in cooking from an early age.”
His expertise spans various culinary domains, but it’s in seafood where his talents truly shine. With nimble hands and an intuitive grasp of flavour, Mogano transforms ocean bounty into culinary masterpieces that captivate the senses.
“I Having worked for renowned restaurants like Marble, Level Seven, Signature Restaurant and I believe destiny is greatness, having collaborated with brands like Robertsons Spices” added Mogano.
Mogano’s affinity for food is nothing short of extraordinary. He showcases the freshest catch with finesse and flair, crafting dishes that are a harmonious symphony of flavours, textures, and aromas, expertly designed to delight even the most discerning palate.
His culinary prowess hasn’t gone unnoticed. Fearlessly appearing on cooking competitions like The Braai Master, Mogano has showcased his ingenuity and skill on various platforms, enchanting audiences with his mastery of the braai and inventive culinary creations.
Reflecting on his experience, Mogano shared, “From coping without a chef’s knife to cooking over an open fire in the middle of the bush, that’s what I learned during The Braai Master competition.”
As he continues to refine his craft and make a name for himself in the culinary world, Mogano sees boundless opportunities on the horizon.

However, Mogano’s journey hasn’t been without challenges. The loss of his father plunged him into profound sorrow, yet it was this adversity that fueled his determination to succeed. Drawing strength from his mother, who served as an unwavering source of inspiration and support.
He channelled his grief into his passion for cooking, using it as a creative outlet to express his emotions and honour his father’s memory.
Beyond the kitchen, Mogano is a multifaceted individual with a flair for music production. As a part-time music producer and DJ.
“I find solace in the rhythmic melodies that fill my studio, providing a creative counterpoint to my culinary pursuits.”
“In every dish I create, I invite diners on a journey of flavour, passion, and culinary discovery,” shared Mogano.
“My plan is to continue working with well-known brands. Collaborating with Robertsons Spices has been beneficial for my career endeavours,” said Mogano when asked about his future plans.
