The organisation takes the lead role in spearheading community efforts to combat rising trends of drug and substance abuse
The Usizo Rehabilitation Centre, a Non-Profit Organisation (NPO) located in Stinkwater, Hammanskraal, is dedicated to assisting the community, particularly young individuals, in combating drug and substance abuse.
Their approach involves providing support through prayer and offering meals to those from underprivileged backgrounds.
The organisation was founded by Isaac Magobosha in 2019 after he recognized the challenges of substance abuse facing the community.
The center focuses on individuals dealing with mental illness and substance abuse, they are referred to as patients. As mentioned, Usizo provides assistance through spiritual intervention.
“The centre offers additional services such as educational sessions on the dangers of drugs, and invites professionals such as pastors, nurses, and social workers,” said Magobosha.
“Therapists visit to provide motivation on life lessons, drugs, substances, self-development, emotional development, relationship building, psycho-education, Bible studies, and other steps of recovery, guiding them through the process,” added Magobosha.
Development programme and counseling are provided by social workers and healthcare workers who visit regularly. The center currently accommodates over 200 patients from the surrounding areas and beyond.
Magobosha further emphasised, “Nearly half of the individuals we assist here struggle to put food on the table.”
“We are truly grateful for the support of those who help us provide food, and we would appreciate continued assistance from them and others to ensure we can access more food,” said Magobosha.
“We currently operate on two plots, one in Rooiwal and the other in Mogogelo. Our mission is to assist everyone in need, and we ensure that whatever food we have, we share it with them.”
“We are seeking assistance from the government, and we have actively engaged in meetings and discussions with them to address our needs,” explained Magobosha.
“We have encountered challenges in securing funding because we have not met the requirements outlined in the supporting documents,” added Magobosha.
“Drugs are like demons to us, which is why we live by the word of God. We educate and pray for individuals to refrain from using these substances, which is why we attend church almost every time,” Magobosha concluded.
