Local organisations have partnered with government departments to raise awareness about social crimes. Thuto Ke Lesedi, a community organisation, is on a mission to address crime issues in Jukulyn and other social ills, including Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
Kaylo Dikgale who is a secretary at Thuto Ke Lesedi and teacher, and a member of the Jukulyn community who attended the campaign, said that the event was about empowering the youth, encouraging and inspiring them not to sit idly but to create business opportunities for themselves.
“Today is not only about crime awareness but also about ensuring that young people empower themselves,” said Dikgale. “We are unemployed, we try, but these organisations do not help us. Today, we have shown that there are various organisations that the youth can approach for employment.”
The whole event was an anti-crime campaign addressing employment, crime, gender-based violence (GBV), and other social issues, with social workers in attendance,” added Dikgale.
He further mentioned that other stakeholders, including Voice of Africa, which has started various projects involving employment, GBV, and drug issues, were present, along with various police departments.
“We had the police secretariat, which oversees police work, the Department of Culture, the Department of Social Development, the Department of Policy, the Community Police Forum (CPF), Thuto Ke Lesedi, Childline Prevention, SACOF for Churches around Soshanguve, the South African Police Services, and Crime Prevention and Traffic Wardens, amongst other stakeholders,” Dikgale concluded.
Mr. Dolo from the (CSPS) stated that the Moral Regeneration Youth Game Changers Campaign follows a previous event held by the Deputy Minister of Police, who visited Jukulyn after recognising the area’s crime issues.
Dolo further said In April, the Deputy Minister of Police instructed the Civilian Secretariat for Police Services and other government departments to deliver services to the community of Jukulyn.
Ntandoyenkosi Mpisane, Chairperson of the Soshanguve Youth Desk at Rietgat Police Station, mentioned that the programme is one of the initiatives to reduce crime by mobilising young people from the community of Jukulyn.
