MEC Mazibuko rallies Soshanguve in ‘Slyza Tsotsi’ crime fight
In the fight against crime in Soshanguve, MEC for Community Safety Faith Mazibuko visited Soshanguve as part of the Crime Imbizo under the slogan “Slyza Tsotsi” at Thakgalang Secondary School. The Imbizo allowed community members to engage with law enforcement units to combat issues such as theft, violence, and police misconduct.
The MEC highlighted concerns raised by community members and assured them that their concerns would be taken into consideration.
“The area of Jukulyn needs more attention, and we are going to beef up police presence in the area,” said MEC Mazibuko. “Building relationships with community members and uniting with law enforcers ensures great communication and cooperation in catching criminals.”
The MEC also provided a platform for residents to voice their issues and concerns while informing them about the crime interventions initiated by the Provincial Government. Community members were allowed to ask questions and have their queries addressed by the MEC and other officials.
The MEC advised wardens, CPF members, and patrollers to increase their visibility within the community. She also encouraged community members to establish street committees to stay informed about activities in their areas, fostering a sense of collective action in addressing local issues.
“We have an app called the e-Panic button app, which was introduced to help anyone experiencing any problem,” added MEC Mazibuko.
Brigadier Govender of Rietgat SAPS station urged community members to document the names and registration numbers of officers who display unhelpful behavior or engage in corruption. Govender reassured the community that more crime prevention operations will be conducted in the area, demonstrating law enforcement’s commitment to enhancing safety and addressing community concerns.
He also highlighted the challenge of case withdrawals in the area and emphasised the importance of community cooperation, urging residents to work with law enforcement to effectively reduce crime in the community.
