Pension Fund Awareness Day: GEPF Reaches Out to Members in Hammanskraal
The Government Employees Pension Fund hosted a special event in Hammanskraal as part of its nationwide campaign to raise awareness of its services for beneficiaries.
The aim of the event was to share information about the pension fund’s processes and how government employees and members can take advantage of the benefits offered by the GEPF.
Residents of Hammanskraal turned out in large numbers to be part of the informative day. They had opportunities to check their details in the database and got the chance to update their information in the system.
Advocate Makhado Ramabulana, Ombudsman of GEPF has expressed his satisfaction with the service and level of commitment demonstrated by the pension fund.
“The GEPF continues to employ various means of communication to inform, educate, and empower its members,” he said, “making it easy for them to access services while ensuring that benefit claims are processed effectively and reach the rightful beneficiaries or spouses.”
Ramabulana highlighted a few important benefits of being an official member of the government employee’s pension fund and provided additional information on how the system operates. “You don’t need a lawyer to claim. All you need to do is lodge online or visit the office. There are types of issues that you can raise if you have concerns,” he explained.
“This includes situations where you discover that your pension funds were not correctly calculated after you claimed,” Ramabulana added, underscoring the accessibility and responsiveness of the GEPF in addressing members’ grievances.
The event showed the GEPF’s commitment to clear communication and honesty, building trust and confidence in its members about how their retirement funds are managed.
The targeted members were between 55 and 65 years old, as well as the people who will retire soon.
The GEPF Day event provided an invaluable opportunity for the pension fund to directly address questions and concerns raised by members of the local community. The organisation made a concerted effort to bring clarity, not only to active members but also to those already receiving their pensions.
Beneficiaries who have yet to receive their rightful entitlements were also advised on the necessary steps to take.
GEPF sounded a stern warning to government employees about the perils of joining dubious pension fund schemes.
“Such organisations, they cautioned, often engage in fraudulent activities, robbing beneficiaries and pensioners of their hard-earned funds,”
“Regrettably, many victims of these scams eventually find themselves back at the GEPF’s doorstep, seeking recourse for their financial losses,” said GEPF.
The event underscored the GEPF’s commitment to transparency and education, empowering its members with the knowledge necessary to make informed decisions about their retirement planning and safeguard their financial futures.
