City of Tshwane Announces Temporary Delays in Waste Collection Due to New Service Providers
The City of Tshwane has informed residents that they may experience slight delays in waste collection following the introduction of new service providers, which will be effective today.
The city expects an improved waste collection service from the previous and new service providers and pleads with customers to exercise patience while the new entrants try to familiarise themselves with the city’s landscape and operations.
The waste collection schedule will not change, and customers are reminded to ensure they put their bins outside in the morning on the day they’re scheduled for collection.
The introduction of the new service providers is expected to stabilise the city’s waste collection system
Tshwane embarks on a catch-up plan for household waste collection
The City of Tshwane has, despite experiencing disruptions in the normal collection and disposal of waste, embarked on a households’ bin lifting catch-up plan to address a backlog.
The causal factor of the disruptions is believed to be the introduction of new service providers who assumed duty with effect from Monday.
In anticipation of the lagging bin lifting service, the city informed customers to expect slight delays in the collection while the new service providers are trying to familiarise themselves with the municipality’s landscape and operations.
Approximately 60% of the previous waste contractors have not made it back onto the new tender owing to the stringent specifications aimed at improving efficiency.
It is suspected that some of the previous service providers are disgruntled and have resorted to threatening and displaying aggression towards drivers of the new contractors.
As the city starts implementing the catch-up plan on the rendering of waste management, law enforcement teams will escort waste collection trucks servicing households across the areas of the affected 6 Regions mentioned hereunder.
