Metrorail Cracks Down on Illegal Ticket Lamination.
Metrorail Gauteng, the commuter rail system operator, has issued a stern warning to passengers against the unauthorised lamination of train tickets. This increasingly common practice is illegal and can result in severe consequences for commuters.
Metrorail emphasises that laminated tickets will not be accepted at train stations or by ticket inspectors. Passengers found with laminated tickets may face penalties, including fines.
Tshwane Bulletin LIVE interviewed commuters at Mabopane train station who condemned the practice of laminating train tickets. A resident of Winterveldt stated, “Laminating tickets interferes with the validation systems and compromises the integrity of the ticketing process.”
The commuter added, “It would be wise for other commuters to take care of their train tickets to prevent them from tearing or losing travel information.” Other commuters have suggested that those concerned about ticket durability should use the ticket holders.
Metrorail’s Marketing and Communication department urges all commuters to keep their tickets in their original condition. The Department said, “Metrorail Gauteng would like to alert all train commuters that the practice of laminating train tickets with cellophane tapes and sticky plastics is prohibited. Anyone found with a laminated ticket will be denied access to operations as the ticket is invalid and fraudulent.”
“Commuters are strongly advised to purchase season tickets. This will not only save them time and avoid daily long queues but also ensure a smoother travel experience,” Metrorail added.
Metrorail has reminded passengers that traveling without a valid ticket is not allowed. Commuters found without a valid train ticket will be charged a standard R40 booking fee plus the normal train fare for that specific route. For more information, commuters are advised to contact Metrorail’s customer care centre.
