MMC for Environment and Agriculture Management Cllr Ziyanda Zwane calls on residents to join the fight against illegal dumping.
This comes after the rising alarm over illegal dumping sites that are mushrooming in the City of Tshwane, causing areas to become dirty.
Zwane has also highlighted the importance of keeping community areas clean to protect the environment.
MMC Zwane has invited residents to participate in the ‘Rekaofela’ cleaning campaign scheduled in all seven regions.
“The objectives of the campaign include achieving a cleaner and greener city through proper waste management services, eradicating illegal dumping, increasing the number of households in Tshwane that use 240 ℓ waste bins, minimising waste at its source, and curbing the current costs related to eradicating illegal dumping hot spots,” said Zwane.
“The reality is that the fight against illegal dumping cannot be won single-handedly by the City,” Zwane added.
Zwane further said that a cleaner city can only be achieved by working together with residents, businesses and civic organisations.
“Therefore, the Rekaofela (‘we are together’) campaign harnesses the ultimate message that this campaign presents: that the fight against illegal dumping is a collective effort.”
Zwane further encouraged residents to participate in activities that will ensure the city is clean and to avoid illegal dumping.
