Members of the Klipgat SAPS, LCRC Crime Intelligence, Gauteng Traffic Wardens STT Northern Corridor, Gauteng Traffic Police, and Tshenolo PI launched a coordinated operation after receiving intelligence about a group of five men involved in a string of robberies, scams, and hijackings targeting motor vehicles and trucks.
As a result of their proactive approach, the team was able to thwart the planned hijacking, demonstrating the effectiveness of collaboration between various law enforcement agencies. Authorities have urged community members to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, emphasising that public cooperation is vital in the ongoing fight against crime.
The suspects lured a crane truck from Kempton Park under the pretense of hauling a heavy-duty generator and then hijacked the truck using a suspected stolen dark blue VW Polo. The truck driver managed to press the panic button before he and his co-driver were tied up.
Members tracked the truck using the panic button coordinates and recovered it in Klipgat. The suspects were arrested, and the driver and co-driver were safely rescued.
