The African National Congress Youth League in Greater Tshwane Region mourns the passing of Cde Thobani Terrance Mtetwa. Cde Thobani met his untimely death in a tragic car accident while traveling back to Gauteng from KwaZulu-Natal.
According to The African National Congress Youth League in Greater Tshwane Region, Cde Thobani was a remarkable and extremely dynamic individual who passed on as he was at his peak politically and career-wise.
“His activism saw him championing the interests of students while pursuing his studies at the University of Pretoria (Tuks). He was an influential figure both in academia and in the society at large. His political acumen made it seamless for him to integrate into the broader Tshwane politics and beyond and he was greatly admired by both the young and old across all walks of life”, Said ANCYL Greater Tshwane.
“His possessed commitment to education saw him rise to heights and unimaginable lengths in the country that is battling with youth unemployment and many other societal ills. He was a champion of gender-based violence and an advocate of the LGBTIQA+ community.” Added ANCYL Greater Tshwane.
The Youth League further said that “His ability to be a dynamic educated activist saw him completing his master’s degree with a research thesis that is focusing on the major societal challenge of access healthcare equity and his research question is (The NHI as an alternative to developing South Africa’s healthcare system: A retrospective-policy analysis) and contributed to the submission that led to the signing of the NHI Bill to law’,”
“Because of his passion for better access to health facilities he aimed to pursue his PHD focusing on taking the NHI to the next step in South Africa,”
“Cde Thobani’s dedication to the African National Congress (ANC), its values and principles was unwavering. He was a staunch supporter of the party, and his contributions to the ANC, the ANC Youth League (ANCYL), and the Young Communist League (YCL) will be remembered as crucial to the growth and development of progressive movements.” Added ANCYL Greater Tshwane.
