The Gauteng Department of Health (GDOH) has confirmed that water has been fully restored at Jubilee Hospital’s service points, following the City of Tshwane’s resolution of the water supply issue that affected Hammanskraal and surrounding areas.
Residents have expressed their outrage over the ongoing service delivery failures, particularly the lack of clean water. Many call the conditions at Jubilee Hospital a disgrace, as patients and health workers are forced to endure the daily stench and unhygienic environment.
The Gauteng Department of Health (GDOH) announced that, as part of addressing deferred elective procedures, a rebooking system will be implemented for patients scheduled for minor operations. Additionally, theatre operating hours will be extended as part of the recovery strategy.
“The GDOH extends our sincere appreciation to the public for their patience and understanding while the water situation was being attended to,”
“Furthermore, we commend our healthcare workers for their commitment and for continuing to do their best to take care of patients under difficult circumstances,” added The Gauteng Department of Health.
City of Tshwane spokesperson, Selby Bokaba attributed the current water crisis in Hammanskraal to problems at the Rooiwal Wastewater Treatment Plant.
“The Temba Water Treatment Plant had to shut down because the water coming from Rooiwal was sewage. The Temba plant isn’t equipped to handle sewage, so the water was contaminated. We had no choice but to stop supplying it to residents,” Bokaba explained.
