The City of Tshwane Executive Mayor, Nasiphi Moya, has confirmed that funds will be allocated in the upcoming budget to revive the Block X Sports facilities in Soshanguve’s Jukulyn area. This initiative follows her recent visit to the crime-stricken area, where she emphasized the importance of engaging young people in sports to curb crime.
“When we say we want to protect residents, we also expect them to take responsibility,” Mayor Moya stated. “A few months ago, I visited the sports facilities in Jukulyn. One of the things we have not done well as a municipality is maintaining these facilities. As a result, young people are being drawn into crime because we’re not keeping them busy enough.”
The mayor outlined plans to dedicate funds to restoring the facilities, which will offer a constructive outlet for youth while fostering partnerships with the community to address social issues.
Highlighting the broader strategy, she added, “The library in the area is equally important to us. Social crimes don’t only involve law enforcement but also include the social programs we are rolling out to keep young people engaged.”
This initiative is part of the municipality’s commitment to tackling crime through community-driven solutions.
