The Gauteng Department of Community Safety and the Department of Health, in collaboration with various stakeholders, have launched the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children campaign. The Health Promotion team from Sub-district 3 marked the launch with a 5km walk to raise awareness about gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF).
The campaign runs from Monday, 25 November 2024, to Tuesday, 10 December 2024, under the theme: “30 Years of Advancing Collective Action to End Violence Against Women and Children.”
MEC Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko, who officiated the launch, highlighted the societal challenges surrounding abuse.
“It aims to raise awareness about the widespread scourge of gender-based violence and femicide and encourages collective action from all sectors of society to act against abuse,” said Nkomo-Ralehoko.
She further emphasised that the campaign is part of the provincial government’s mandate to end violence against women and children through a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary, and multi-stakeholder approach.
The Phedisong Clinic in Ga-Rankuwa also participated by hosting its own awareness programme as part of the annual initiative.
Additionally, the Gauteng Department of Health has reported significant progress in its service delivery programme during the first 100 days of the 7th Administration, from June to September 2024
