ANTICIPATION MOUNTS: May Marks Second Edition of Miss Golden High School Competition.
The Miss Golden High School competition, a prominent beauty pageant held in Soshanguve Block H, is gearing up to host its second annual event in May 2024. This highly anticipated beauty extravaganza is poised to capture attention in the wake of the South African elections, where citizens will exercise their democratic right to vote for a new government.
It has been two years since the establishment of Miss Golden High School, and the organisation is determined to enhance the quality of life for the less fortunate and provide a pathway to success for the youth, steering them away from the perils of the streets.
This competition aims to empower the youth of Soshanguve who dream of becoming future models. It offers them specialised training and opportunities to showcase their talents, allowing them to compete alongside others in the Soshanguve community.
The Miss Golden High Schools competition has worked tirelessly, leaving an extraordinary impact on the hearts of the Soshanguve community.
Founded with the mission to recruit and support the budding stars of the community in pursuing their dreams through modeling, it also serves to protect them from the dangers of the streets, including social issues, teenage pregnancy, crime, drugs, alcohol abuse, and poverty.
Thabiso Dennis Mokoena, the founder and organiser of Miss Golden High School, has expressed his intention to host at least five beauty pageants annually. This initiative aims to facilitate the easy recognition of talent by both business owners and society at large.
“My aim is to ensure that their talent is acknowledged by the community, providing them with an opportunity to steer clear of negative influences. In our community schools, there is a lack of extracurricular activities, and our children no longer have access to facilities within the community,” Mokoena emphasized.
During its inaugural competition at the Halala Community Hall on October 28th, 2023, Victoria Masango (15) was crowned Miss Golden High Schools. She outshone 14 other contestants, initially making it to the top 7 and eventually securing a spot in the top 3 finalists.
“I am also planning to include music artists and poets to perform. However, my main emphasis is currently on beauty pageants as I have not yet secured enough resources to accommodate everyone,” Mokoena stated confidently.
Mokoena believes that if these children receive support from both their parents and the community, they can succeed. He emphasizes the importance of parents making time to understand and support their children’s endeavours.
“I wanted to witness these young people forming strong bonds with their parents and receiving support from the community. I’ve observed that in modern society, white families play a significant role in guiding their children’s pursuits until they reach adulthood,” Mokoena added.
Mokoena believes that hosting more than three events annually can greatly contribute to the development of South Africa’s future. He is hopeful of securing sponsors to provide gifts for participants in the Miss Golden High Schools events.
