Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University (SMU) paid tribute to beloved rugby player and student-athlete, Bohlale Motale Lehloesa. Bohlale was not only a talented rugby player but also a dedicated student pursuing a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) and a Master’s degree in Anatomy.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, teammates, and everyone affected by this profound loss. Your legacy and impact will forever live on in our hearts,” the university stated.
On Friday, 20 September 2024, at the SMU Spring Graduation Ceremony, Bohlale Motale Lehloesa’s Master of Science in Anatomy was conferred posthumously. Bohlale’s passion for medical science and dedication to academic excellence were unparalleled. He completed his BSc in 2020 and Honours in Anatomy in 2021 before embarking on his master’s research, which focused on the anatomy of the knee.
“Although his journey was tragically cut short, Bohlale’s legacy lives on through his groundbreaking work and the lives he touched,” SMU remarked. “His resilience, kindness, and commitment to making a difference in the world will forever be remembered,” the university added.
Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University further paid tribute by highlighting some memorable moments with Bohlale. “Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences go out to his family and friends during this time. Rest in peace, Bohlale. Your light continues to shine,” the university expressed.
The SMU sports department described Bohlale as a true champion both on and off the field, noting that his presence, passion, and spirit will be deeply missed.
Bohlale Motale Lehloesa was born in 1999 and, unfortunately, passed away in March of this year. He left an indelible mark in both the sporting fraternity and the health sector.
